What's in a name?

Websters' definition: is:

crook\ˈkru̇k\
  • Verb: to bend (your finger, neck or arm)
  • Noun: a dishonest person, a criminal
When I say my last name, often eyebrows rise and eyes narrow.  So you want to know, "which one am I"?

Well, my great cousin Carleton did an exhaustive family history. He traced our roots back to the mid-1400's.  His research showed that our family came from the Pendle region of England. Our name Crook, is .an abbreviation of
Crookshank, which was the nickname of a man with a deformed leg.  "Our own branch restored the final 'e' in about 1800."

So, breathe a sigh of relief!  My name is the verb - coming from a man with a "crooked" leg.

History

I spent most of my career working in the design and construction industry. I started out in project management and technical support. Later I moved into marketing and business development where I could spend my time finding what was interesting about a project or service and tell lots of people about it.  I primarily worked for architects, engineers and contractors. My firm's focused on building hospitals, research facilities, academic institutions and commercial buildings.

More recently I secured a certification in coaching and continue to compliment my knowledge of behavior change and personal growth.

Addi
tionally, throughout my career, I have always painted and I have had the opportunity to spend a good part of the past three years developing my skills as an artist.

Today

I use my passion for helping people find their strengths and what's really interesting about them to develop and implement strategies to grow themselves and their business.

I also continue to
promote my artwork by exhibiting in various venues and securing commissions.
